Ernesto Chanona

Senior Manager, Office of BioHealth and Life Sciences, Maryland Department of Commerce

Ernesto is a cancer immunologist-turned-economic developer at the Maryland Department of Commerce. Ernesto’s primary role to refine the economic development strategy for the biotechnological and pharmaceutical sectors (together, termed BioHealth) for the State of Maryland through an in-depth analysis of the market. This first-in-kind analysis has provided insight into the distribution of the primary sectors, such as Research Products, Therapeutics and Diagnostics, as well as the types of technologies and disease states addressed by each of the sectors across the state. Targeted foreign direct investment using these data is his next step, enhancing the presence of mid-to-large companies from across the world in the Old Line State.
